The Start of Lunatics Co.

My name is Cornelius and I got into drifting later in life during my mid 20s. I was always into cars and into drifting but never took that step own a drift car because I was afraid I did not know how to maintain/build one. In 2018, I had a 91' Miata that I built for drifting but ultimately hated how small it was and how it was hard to carry spares and street drive to the track. It was very short lived and had the car for less than a year. At the end of 2019, a few months before C-19 shut down started I picked up a Lexus IS300. A month later a took it to its first drift event and another month later I took it to Sonoma Winter Jam. After driving those two events, I new the IS300 was going to be a good platform. I did realize how slow the car was and to be a good driver you need to drive it hard.

Drifting is a sport that requires you to do everything opposite of traditional motorsport. Clutch kicks, handbrake, and  oversteer seems crazy to people outside the sport. The nature of the sport itself is crazy, cars are being abused, parts breaking all the time, burning through tires, and tapping each others door. That is how I came up with the name Lunatics. The nature of the sport is crazy and it takes some one a little crazy to love the sport.

Drifting has definitely evolved to a sport where people are chasing higher and higher HP and more grip. In the old days, people just drifted with what they had. Any budget RWD and drove it as hard as they can. Simple mods took them a long way and they were having a blast. Because of the media, people feel the need to over build their drift cars and some people become to intimidated to start drifting. I created Lunatics Co. help people get into the sport in an affordable way and to show them they can have fun with a simple setup.
